Departure

I write the first entry on this blog from Aarhus, a city I will miss over the next 4 months, as I wait to catch the 17.00 train to Copenhagen Airport. From there I will take Turkish Airlines flight TK1788 to Istanbul tonight, arriving in the Bosphorus city at 5am tomorrow. After an 8-hour stopover, I will board TK0824 on to Beirut where I will be spending much of the next 4 months.

A lot of my time in the Middle East will be spent at language school trying to improve my Arabic skills, but there should also be ample opportunity to learn something of the culture, people and country of Lebanon. I will try my best to pass my impressions on via this blog, and hopefully those reading at home will also learn something about this part of the world while I'm here - as well as being able to stay in touch of course.

The coming months will be my first chance to experience the Middle East first-hand, so I'm excited about experiencing and writing about what lies ahead. In the mean time all I can offer is the Beirut wikipedia page, and a promise that future blogs will be somewhat more exciting - insh'Allah!
